Google Buzz experiences privacy concerns

After the recent release of Buzz, Google’s alternative to Facebook and other social networking tools, it has already seen complaints from many users.

Similar to Facebook, Google Buzz has the default setting to allow users’ content to be seen by anyone; however, it has caused concern to some users as it does not iterate the true consequences of some of the settings. An error on Google’s behalf started the discussion, with anyone being able to see who you were following. There was little control over who you could block or follow, with anyone you’d contacted on your gMail being added, leading to the possibility of malicious messages on various profiles.

Google has now amended the service, removing the feature allowing strangers to see who you were following. A basic feature has been added to Google Buzz allowing a profile to be blocked, however a more advanced system is predicted to be in progress due to recent havoc. The U.S government has made it clear that they are prepared to begin an investigation into the situation, scrutinizing how Google manages data and handles privacy policies.

  1. Hm, I’ve never heard of Buzz, but it doesn’t seem to be doing so well.

  2. Are they going to beat facebook…? let see then

  3. If they are ever to beat Facebook, I think they’d have to move away from the integration in Google Mail. However, even if they do that, Facebook is already years ahead.
