HP Slate is looking to rival the iPad
A side view of the HP Slate.
With the recent unveiling of Apple’s iPad in January, the news regarding rivals’ tablets has seemed to die down. However, HP has broken this silence with the aim to undercut iPad’s prices, competing for the top market share.
Although the HP Slate was demoed before Apple’s iPad, the company refrained from giving any details on release dates and technical specifications to ensure they could tweak their technology to be as similar to the iPad as possible.
Not much is currently known about the HP Slate, with key details being kept quiet; however, rumors have been flying that the tablet will include 3G support, similar to the iPad, and include Flash capability – a subject which has led to many complaints about the iPad’s functionality as a tablet. The HP Slate is likely to run Windows 7, allowing users a wide range of accessibility unlike the iPad’s limited Operating System.
HP executives are likely to meet up in the next few weeks, finalizing the prices to be as competitive as possible to Apple’s iPad. Although the specifications may be similar, it may be down to Apple’s corporate strength which leads the iPad, leaving the HP Slate with a small number of sales despite their pricing strategy.

This is probably a “superior” tablet or at least very similar in specs. The flash function is GREAT, however the iPad has the book reader/ the amazing applications.
The iPad may have the application store, but surely Windows 7 allows for any games to be played online anyway?
The HP Slate looks fantastic, a definite iPad competitor. As the HP Slate seems to be a tad lower in price, consumers may opt for that during these hard economic times
Any news on Flash compatibilities?
I’d say this is a good thing. I would rather buy a HP products over apple any day. Also like the Windows 7, and Flash memory. To me…this is better.
I agree Wes, the HP Slate certainly has a few nice-looking features. However, will every detail be scrutinized? I’m sure Apple would’ve checked most things to see if it’s perfect.
